Finnish designer Kustaa Saksi's illustrations come to life as large-scale weavings at the Tilburg Textiel Museum.
Best known for his colourful, psychedelic illustrations, Amsterdam-based Finn Kustaa Saksi has worked with the Tilburg Textiel Museum to create a series of huge, elaborately detailed weavings, that are on display until 8 November this year.
The collection of eight limited edition pieces, entitled Hypnopompic, is based on drawings exploring the designer's ongoing fascination with the world between sleep and dreams. His highly textured, complex designs draw on imagery from the natural world, from spiders to strange plant forms and undersea creatures.
Saksi's woven artworks have been manufactured using the Jacquard weaving technique and are made of a mix of mohair and alpaca wool, cotton and synthetic materials, including phosphate and metallic acrylic thread. They were developed and produced in collaboration with the museum's TextielLab, a specialist workshop and open studio to nurture innovation in the field of textile design and manufacture.
