As Lars Müller re-publishes one of the foundational documents of contemporary graphic design in a beautiful facsimile edition, we offer our readers the chance to grab a copy for themselves.
If you ever needed to be convinced of the power and effect that publishing a magazine can have on its subject of interest, then Josef Müller-Brockmann’s Neue Grafik (the “International Review of graphic design and related subjects”) would be a prime candidate. Operating between 1958 and 1965, the title was central in establishing and disseminating the Swiss school credo that would come to dominate graphic design in the latter half or the twentieth century. Hans Neuburg, Carlo Vivarelli and Richard Paul Lohse joined Müller-Brockmann in steering the editorial direction of a magazine that promoted both a rigorous formal language and conceptual approach to projects in a way that transformed the landscape of corporate design in particular.
Now publisher Lars Müller is releasing a facsimile edition of the complete run of eighteen issues of Neue Grafik, accompanied by a booklet of commentary, all contained within a striking red slipcase. The set stands as both an invaluable working resource and a historical document, allowing contemporary practitioners access to a magazine that was until recently only the preserve of monied collectors. To celebrate the re-release of what is surely one of the touchstones of design thinking and criticism over the last century, Lars Müller and Grafik have teamed up to offer one of our readers the chance to win a copy of this titanic (both in size and content) publication. To enter all you need to do is send an email to giveaway@grafik.net with Neue Grafik in the subject heading and tell us in which city the magazine was based.
