We've long had a soft spot for FREITAG here at Grafik—the company, which was founded by graphic designers Markus and Daniel Freitag back in 1993, made its name with a range of stylish, practical and waterproof bags crafted from used truck tarpaulins. Since then, they've expanded their range to encompass over seventy products including bags, accessories and apparel that make clever use of recycled materials, even developing their own compostable textile back in 2014.
FREITAG's latest product is ZIPPELIN, their first rolling travel bag, and true to form, it incorporates not only their signature truck tarps but also an innovative solution to the problem of weight and bulk that this kind of luggage can often pose. Leaving out the standard heavy metal frame, the FREITAG team drew instead upon their shared love of cycling and chose to use a standard 28-inch bicycle inner-tube to provide structure to the bag, keeping the weight low and allowing the ZIPPELIN to be deflated and packed away when not in use. As with all FREITAG bags, the recycled truck tarp fabric means that each ZIPPELIN is unique, hard-wearing and waterproof.
