Quandus type sampler by Laura Meseguer

Arguably the best place in London to go and see quality design-and-type-related talks (and certainly the setting for events most steeped in design history), St Bride Library has an exciting schedule in the coming months.

First up is A World of Words With Jean Francois Porchez on Tuesday 25 April. French typographic legend Porchez has designed bespoke fonts for a boggling array of global brands– Le Monde, the Paris Metro, Louis Vuitton, Galleries Lafayette, Sephora, YSL Beauté and Nespresso, to name but a few. In his talk next Tuesday he will share his experiences as an expert in the design of bespoke typefaces, logotypes and typographic consultancy; he will also divulge some nuggets of typographic wisdom and advice. Not to be missed for anyone interested in letters and their design.

Porchez is followed by a smashing line-up in an event on 1 June with speakers Laura Meseguer, José Scaglione and Cristóbal Henestrosa (with contributions from Gerry Leonidas and Elena Veguillas). The designers from Spain, Argentina, Mexico and UK, respectively, will all be here to celebrate the UK launch of Meseguer, Scaglione and Henestrosa’s book How To Create Typefaces. The book, subtitled From Sketch to Screen, opens up the entire process of typeface design in an accessible way, from motivation, through practical design stages, to distribution. The event promises to be unmissable for all students of typography and graphic design. Copies of the book will be available to buy on the night.
