Reveille weaving by Kustaa Saksi

It’s not uncommon to see illustrators and graphic artists applying their skills to other media and making products, but few do it with the magnificent aplomb of Kustaa Saksi. As a sequel to his Hypnopompic tapesry series, he has just launched Reveille, a mini collection of Jacquard woven wall hangings. They are, he says, “inspired by awakenings, mornings and spring, featuring bats, moths, constellations and an egg”.

Meanwhile, Saksi's Hypnopompic weavings have just gone on display at MUMEDI design museum in Mexico. His illustrations have a jaw-dropping effect at scale on vast wall-hangings but also shine on a smaller scale – he recently collaborated with Marimekko on a range of products from garments to teapots in the Marimekko SS15 collection.
